3D Building Scan for HBO’s “The Gilded Age”

In an era where the fusion of historical accuracy and cutting-edge technology defines the essence of storytelling in media and entertainment, MYND Workshop stood at the forefront of innovation for HBO's acclaimed series 'The Gilded Age.' By harnessing the power of terrestrial LiDAR scanning, terrestrial photogrammetry, and aerial photogrammetry, our team meticulously captured the intricate exteriors of the iconic Surrogate's Court building in Manhattan's City Hall area. This collaboration with A52 VFX and MakeMake Entertainment was not just a technical endeavor but a narrative one, ensuring the visual effects conveyed authenticity and grandeur, resonating with the series' period setting.

Navigating the logistical labyrinth to secure permissions for drone flights in one of Manhattan's most secure zones presented a formidable challenge. However, our determination and expertise turned this challenge into a triumph, allowing us to acquire unparalleled visual data. The fusion of different scanning methodologies enabled us to construct a highly detailed 3D mesh, capturing the essence of the Surrogate's Court building's ornate façade with exceptional precision. This mesh served as a cornerstone for A52 VFX and MakeMake Entertainment, offering them a robust foundation for crafting the visual spectacle that 'The Gilded Age' demanded.

The project's success stands as a testament to MYND Workshop's commitment to pushing the boundaries of 3D scanning and modeling in the media and entertainment industry. By seamlessly integrating aerial photogrammetry, LiDAR scanning, and 3D building scan techniques, we not only preserved the architectural integrity of a historical landmark but also enriched the visual storytelling of 'The Gilded Age.' This endeavor highlights the transformative potential of combining traditional craftsmanship with modern technology, setting a new benchmark for future productions seeking to blend the realms of history and digital innovation.
