Waldorf Astoria NY - Scan to Revit Model of Heritage Spaces

MYND Workshop embarked on a significant project at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel, an emblem of New York City's elegance and historical richness. As the hotel prepared for a comprehensive renovation in 2017, the task at hand was to ensure the preservation of its iconic heritage spaces through meticulous documentation. Collaborating with AECOM Tishman and SOM (Skidmore Owings & Merrill), MYND's primary goal was to capture the essence of these areas, safeguarding their legacy while facilitating their transformation.

The project encompassed the detailed capture of the hotel's most distinguished heritage spaces, which spanned an expansive area of approximately 300,000 square feet. This included the majestic Ballroom, the exquisite Basildon Room, the radiant Silver Gallery, the grandiose Park Lobby Entrance, the stately Main Lobby, and the historic Peacock Alley, amongst other notable areas. Each space demanded a nuanced approach to documentation that respected its historical significance while embracing the precision of modern technology.

Utilizing advanced laser scanning techniques, MYND Workshop was able to accurately document the intricate architectural details and grandeur of these spaces. The result was the creation of highly detailed 3D Revit models that served multiple purposes throughout the renovation process. These digital twins provided a comprehensive representation of the heritage spaces, offering an invaluable tool for planning, preservation, and renovation efforts.
